During his academic and research career, Roy traveled the Amazon River Basin documenting biodiversity. His work in South America's rivers and streams led him to discover two previously unknown fish species. During his work with NGOs and government, Roy gained extensive experience with ecosystem science. He is particularly proud of his conservation planning in the Upper Mississippi River Basin. Roy provides Watermark with a holistic lens on the confluence of nature, science, and human communities. The biodiversity of Maryland's Allegheny Plateau sparked Roy's commitment to our natural world. Currently, he collaborates with the State of Maryland to manage his family's tree farm for sustainable harvest and pristine stream preservation. Weitzell holds a B.S. in Marine Biology from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and an M.S. in Zoology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. |
