Watermark Initiative

With over twenty years of research, teaching, honors and awards, Larry represents a real authority on urban ecosystems and environmental policy. A prolific writer, Larry is regularly published in various scientific journals. Larry also authored a book, Environmental Chemistry of Lakes and Reservoirs, and has two more in progress, one about the water environment in cities and the other about the end of pollution. Larry is well connected and respected in America’s Southwest and Upper Midwest academic and public policy circles, where he has organized workshops and conferences on the effect of humans on water and urban ecosystems.

Larry recently published a book entitled "The Water Environment of Cities." This book discusses the possibility and necessity of improving urban water environments with the help of insights gained from the many mistakes that have been made by urban developers in the past. It is argued that new science, technology, and institutions must be employed to encourage progress toward a "holistic" approach to urban water development.

Since 2001 Larry has been a Senior Fellow with the Water Resources Center at the University of Minnesota and has been part of the Graduate Faculty in the Water Resources Science Program. In addition to his Ph.D., Larry holds a B.S. in Biology from Pennsylvania State University and a M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Utah State University. He lives in the Twin Cities with his wife, two children, and one chocolate lab.
