Basandorj Davaagiin, PhD - Hydro Diplomat - Watermark Initiative’s hands-on technical expert to one of the world’s most important and sensitive ecological regions: the Mongolian Steppes.

Basandorj has 23 years of work experience with water resources in Mongolia, in the areas of urban water supply, wastewater, water database development, and Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM). He has participated in numerous international courses and workshops on water resource management, and is currently the Director of the Ulaanbaatar-based Mongolian Research and Training Center in IWRM. Basandorj is the former State Secretary of the Ministry of Nature and the Environment, and was Permanent Secretary, now Chair, of the National Water Committee for IHP. Basandorj is a long-time lecturer and department head at the Mongolian Technical University, and is currently President of the Environment and Development Association of Mongolia, and functions as advisor to the Water Authority of the Mongolian Government Implementation Agency.

Basandorj holds a M.S. in Engineering from the Technical University of the Russian Federation and a Ph.D. from the University of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Russian Federation. He is fluent in English, Russian, and Mongolian.
